Q & A

  • Do you believe you’re allergic to cats?
Based on my own experience, it’s possible to be allergic to stray cats due to their exposure to various contaminants and potential diseases on the streets. However, you may not exhibit allergies to a house cat in a clean environment. Additionally, when you adopt a young kitten, your immune system can gradually build tolerance to allergens like skin cells and dander produced by the animals. As a child, I had a severe allergic reaction when I touched a stray cat in our yard. But now, having adopted my own cats at the age of 5-6 weeks, I no longer experience any allergies. The same goes for my husband, who believed he was allergic to cats before we owned one.
  • Is it true that all white cats are deaf?
In the world of cats, a common myth persists: that all white cats, especially those with blue eyes, are deaf. However, this is not accurate. Only a very small percentage of white cats are deaf or carry the gene for deafness. At Boutique Kittens, we have tested our cats, and none of them carry the gene for deafness.
  • Are Persian cats small?
Despite having a large and heavy-boned build, they are generally considered medium-sized cats. Their thick fur coat can make them appear larger than their actual size. On average, a mature Persian cat weighs between seven to twelve pounds, with males often being larger than females. While there can be variations in size among individual cats of this breed, there is no fixed standard size.

Among our cats, the green-eyed Chinchilla stands out with a smaller structure. The white fur blue-eyed cat weighs around 8 lbs, whereas the green-eyed Chinchilla weighs around 5 lbs.

However, due to differences in factors such as diet, exercise, and genetics, there exists a significant variance in size. It’s important to bear in mind that even if they belong to the same breed, no two cats will have identical weights. Therefore, closely monitoring your Persian cat’s weight and ensuring they receive appropriate nourishment are essential aspects of their care.
  • Do Persian cats possess short legs?
Persian cats are medium-sized and heavy-boned felines with short, thick legs, a brief neck, and a broad chest. In comparison to other cat breeds, Persian cats indeed exhibit short legs. This breed has signifying a flat face and snub nose, contributing to their leg proportions. Due to their body structure, they may not run or walk as proficiently as some other cat breeds. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean Persian cats lack swiftness or jumping ability. With appropriate surroundings and proper training, these cats can display remarkable agility.
It’s worth highlighting that our green-eyed chinchilla possesses short legs and isn’t capable of jumping as high as the kitchen counter because of the small body structure.
It’s also important to note that the ability of cats to jump or move can vary from one individual to another based on factors such as their age, health, and physical conditioning, rather than solely on their breed.
  • Are Persian cats known for their cuddliness?
Persian cats are celebrated for their exceptional affection and love. They delight in being in the company of their family and often shadow them around the house or settle in a lap, seeking affection. They relish gentle petting and brushing, which benefits both the cat and its owner. Persians generally have a tranquil disposition with occasional bursts of excitement, making them wonderful playmates. It’s important to note that neutering or spaying kittens before they reach maturity can significantly influence their calm and cuddly nature.
  • How often should you give your kitten a bath?
It’s recommended to use cat shampoo once a month. However, if you find yourself without cat shampoo, you can use a mild baby shampoo without harsh chemicals as an alternative. Be cautious not to bathe your cat with baby shampoo too frequently, as cats groom themselves regularly, and allowing baby shampoo to linger on their fur could pose a danger to your kitten.
